Skincare Rule #6
SKINCARE RULE #6 – EXFOLIATION IS THE KEY
Exfoliation is the key to many skin concerns including anti-aging, dullness from epidermal thickening, smoothing lines, reducing pore size, acne, and more. We often see our clients get into trouble by either over exfoliation or over drying. Knowing how and when to exfoliate your facial skin and with which ingredient is the key to healthy, glowing skin. Following are a list of common exfoliants.
A. Acid Peels: Pro-Inflammatory
- AHA – Alpha Hydroxy Acids: keratolytic acid: Glycolic, Lactic, Azaleic, Citric and Malic Acid are a few
- BHA – Beta Hydroxy Acids: lipo-soluble acid: Salicylic Acid
B. Enzyme Peels: Non-inflammatory
- Papain – from Papaya, digests protein: proteolitic enzyme
- Bromelain – from Pineapple, digests protein: proteolitic enzyme
- Lipase – from mushroom, digests lipids: lipo-soluble enzyme
- Amylase – from barley, digests sugars: saccaridase enzyme
C. Physical Exfoliation: Pro-inflammatory
- Microdermabrasion
- Scrubs
- Lufa’s, wash cloths, micro fiber, etc
